August 2011
Author: GremlinAnd, another show done for the month.
Meaning that, yeah: the show is still monthly, for the moment. Everyone thinks the show should go semimonthly, and soon; but everyone’s local and onscene. The final decision is out of anyone’s hands, somewhere up at the national corporate level, which might be run entirely by a computer, for all we know—possibly a computer with a sort of floatingpoint schizophrenia incapable of noticing that, among midnight shows at the Esquire, RHPS is outselling everything else they’ve got, forcing the box office to turn people away once we reach SRO critical mass inside.
So, whatever that means. Apparently that someone somewhere is still deliberating. Slowly.
On the bright side, there are two shows scheduled for October—Friday and Saturday at the end of the month, for Halloween. But that’s later. Still, it’s worth announcing early since they’re both pretty well guaranteed to sell out by about the preceding Tuesday; grab your tickets online, while they’re still available.
In other news: August was the annual cancer benefit thing, again. I don’t have the numbers yet, but all proceeds from the throwbags went to…something. Susan G Koman for the Cure. No one ever tells me anything; I had to go look that up.
In yet other news, we got Animal back this month. A professional DJ who’s been playing with RHPS for decades now. Hence all the music which sounded a little better than an iPod patched quickly into a ponyamp. Animal can’t necessarily make every show—especially if and when the thing goes semimonthly or weekly—since he’s got other commitments; but, when things work out, they work out pretty well.
I wanted to mention that specifically since, between professional and benefit, you get the idea that he showed up and did all this pro bono publico, when by all rights he shoulda got about five thousand bucks for the gig. Might wanna get him a fruitbasket or something.
Oh. And CEI grabbed up a new castmember for the show: Evelyn. Which I’d tell you more about, but I don’t know a lot yet; watch for her under CastMembers once she’s filled out a bio I can copypaste.
And, that’s about it for August. September’s show is scheduled for Friday the thirtieth, starting up just before midnight; that’s meant to be a relatively normal show, whatever that might mean—usually and ironically described as playing it straight. You’ll be able to get tickets to that online toward the end of the month, threatening again to sell out the show even before anyone shows up on the night.
